Arms and Armor

Like other feudal families of the period, Ogyen Choling too maintained an armoury. Arms were needed to protect the family and their interest and properties during internal conflicts as well as from external aggressions. The last time when Ogyen Choling was involved in an external war was in 1865 with the British. During this conflict the heir to the Ogyen Choling estate was killed during a battle in Dewathang (eastern Bhutan). Despite their limited numbers and outdated armour as exhibited under this theme, the Bhutanese soldiers did impressively well against the well equipped British army.
